Shopify Squarespace integration: a complete guide

Shopify Squarespace integration: a complete guide

Are you wanting to get the best of both worlds by integrating Shopify and Squarespace?

You won’t have to wade through complicated steps or need any developer knowledge to do it. Shopify is user-friendly with its intuitive design and the integration takes only a few minutes.

In this article, we’ll explain how to integrate Shopify into your Squarespace website. We’ll also go over the benefits of the integration. This will give you an idea of what to expect when combining these platforms.

So, before we launch into the step-by-step integration process, let’s see why it works so well.

Can you integrate Shopify with Squarespace?

Yes, you can integrate Shopify with Squarespace, and it’s a fairly simple process too.

Stripe has been the most popular payment processor for Squarespace. Many users don’t bother with anything else because Stripe works well, and it’s a good choice as long as you’re in the right country.

Unfortunately, some countries don’t have access to Stripe and this could cost you valuable business.

Shopify, as an e-Commerce platform, allows connections to third-party gateways, which makes it easier to accept foreign currencies. So, while it isn’t a payment processor, it does provide more payment options than Squarespace has on its own.

If you use Squarespace but Stripe doesn’t work for you, then the Shopify Widget is your best bet. This Widget allows you to embed your Shopify Store or selected products into another platform. You can do this with any website or even a blog post.

Why would you want to do this on your Squarespace website? Because Shopify is an online store builder, and a powerful one too. Conversely, Squarespace is a website builder and has fewer e-Commerce features.

This is what makes using Shopify with Squarespace so amazing. They’re both top-class platforms and work seamlessly together.

And like syncing Drupal with Shopify, you can create a unique online store. You can create your website with Squarespace and then power your store with the Shopify Buy Button.

The Shopify Squarespace integration is seamless, flexible, and powerful.

Benefits of Shopify Squarespace Integration

Squarespace is a brilliant website builder and while it has e-Commerce facilities, it’s not the best. Those limitations are where Shopify comes in. It fills in all the gaps you didn’t even know existed.

Let’s take a closer look at the benefits of this integration:

  • One of the greatest benefits of Shopify is its easy-to-use interface. You don’t need web development knowledge to do the integration. All it takes is a few simple steps to begin the process.
  • Shopify is secure, fast, and reliable. It will perform automatic upgrades and maintenance to your store. No worrying about your store having glitches or freezing while customers are browsing. It can also encrypt all data in the store, including customer information.
  • Like with using the Shopify WordPress plugin, integrating Shopify and Squarespace provides more flexibility. It means you’ll get the top-notch content creation features of Squarespace paired with Shopify’s commerce tools.
  • Since Shopify is a dedicated e-Commerce platform, it makes it easier to manage many products. This includes product variations, running promotions, and creating package deals.
  • Shopify’s commerce tools are more powerful than Squarespace. Integrating Shopify will give you access to these tools. It will override and replace all Squarespace’s commerce features with its own.
  • It’s easier to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Shopify allows you to run multiple promotions simultaneously, which helps you attract more customers. And creating a great marketing campaign only takes a few minutes. This means that aside from its commerce features, Shopify has powerful marketing and SEO tools too.
  • You can also customize the customer view by customizing your Shopify theme. It allows you to choose what you want your Buy Button to look like. This reflects in Squarespace once the integration is complete.

  • Squarespace, on its own, only has access to one payment processor. The integration provides more payment processing options. Shopify allows you to use their payment processor or third-party gateways. This is ideal if you plan on dealing with foreign currencies.

How to integrate Shopify with Squarespace

Before we start, you need to have a Shopify account. You can add Shopify Lite to Squarespace. This will allow you to use Shopify’s core commerce features, including their payment options.

It’s good to note that Shopify Lite is a starter version. You probably won’t get much more than a basic Buy Button. You’ll need a Shopify Online Store account if you want extra features like adding images or a price.

You’ll have to pay extra for this feature-rich version, but you can offset it by opting for a cheaper Squarespace plan.

The integration is much easier than moving from a different e-Commerce platform. For example, if you use Ecwid, you’ll have to migrate your entire Ecwid store to Shopify

This could take months to do manually and you’d need the technical know-how to do it. If you’re not tech-savvy, you’ll need to hire someone who is or find automated software to do it.

However, since you use Squarespace, the process is quick and easy. Once you have a Shopify account, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Set up products in Shopify

  • To set up your products in Shopify, go to Products and then Inventory.
  • You can upload product images, pricing, descriptions, any variations, etc.

Step 2: Set up a payment processor or gateway

  • You can enable Shopify Payments or use a third-party gateway.
  • Using a third-party means you’ll be charged transaction fees. Your payout information won’t be in your Shopify admin, either.

Step 3: Add a Buy Button

The Buy Button is in the Sales Channel section of the Shopify admin. If you don’t see it, then you’ll need to add it first. Follow these steps to add the Buy Button to your Sales Channel:

  • Next to the Sales Channel heading, click the plus button.
  • An Add Sales Channel dialog will appear.
  • Click the Buy Button for more information on the sales channel.
  • Select Add Channel
  • It will now be added to your Sales Channel section.

Step 4: Create a new Buy Button

  • Once it’s in your Sales Channel, create a Buy Button.
  • You can create a Buy Button for a single product or a collection of products.
  • The Product Buy Button is for individual products. This allows you to be selective with the products or variations you want to include.
  • The Buy Collection Button is for entire collections of products. This allows you to embed all products and variants to Squarespace.

Step 5: Customize the Shopify plugin for Squarespace

  • You can edit and style the Buy Button to suit your needs.
  • You can choose the color, font, size, and actions of the button. This includes if checkout will open in a new window.
  • There are also three layout template options:
    • The basic view is a simple Add to Cart button. There are no details or images. This is the option you’ll have with Shopify Lite.
    • The classic view gives an overview of the product. The price and an image are included with the Add to Cart button.
    • The extended view provides more product details. Along with the Add to Cart button, it includes the image, description, and price.
  • You should preview and test the button to check your customizations. We advise you to do this before you integrate it with your website.

Step 6: Add Shopify Buy Button to Squarespace

After you create the Buy Button, a code will automatically be generated for it. You’ll have to copy and paste this code into your Squarespace website.

Remember that the code for a single product differs from the code for a collection. Be sure that you created the right widget before you embed it on your site.

Now that you have the code, follow the next steps:

  • Once you’ve copied the code, go to your Squarespace website.
  • Go into Edit mode and open the Content Block Menu.
  • Now, add a new Code Block
  • Paste the code from Shopify into the Code Block.

It’s important to note that you can’t customize the button once it’s embedded. You’ll have to return to your Shopify account to change its appearance.

To do this, create a new button and use that code to replace the one on your website.

Conclusion

Once you’ve followed the steps above, your Shopify Squarespace integration will be complete.

The integration is seamless and you shouldn’t encounter any problems. Remember to set up your payment processor before you add the Buy Button.

You should also take the time to preview and test the button before you embed it into Squarespace. As we said, once it’s embedded, you’ll have to replace it if you want to edit it. It’s best to double-check your customization beforehand.
